 The incumbent Congress party interim president Shri Sonia Gandhi has decided to conduct free and fair elections for the Congress party president. She has already issued the notification and election date. As we saw the history, in 20 years Congress party has not conducted even a single election but passed on every time. The main question Why now is the correct time to bring back the bygone proceeding to elect? and also amidst Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Jodo Yatra" is it necessary to conduct now and can turn a positive upshot for the Gandhi family.

Why is Shashi Tharoor contesting?

Shashi Tharoor is an MP from Trivandrum and predominantly a G23 faction member. He along with 22 others wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi citing the mismanagement and breakdown of the congress party in the Lok Sabha elections. Shashi Tharoor is an Intellect and a diplomat who can make truthful and thoughtful comments against their rivalries. He has huge following from youth and educated civilians. From the day when Sonia Gandhi announced the presidential polls, he was showing some sort of interest to be a part of it. Rumors spread that he may contest the polls but now the rumors became veracity. But it seems his contest has not made the Gandhi family contented. In fact, he met Shri Sonia Gandhi to take permission from her whether to contest or not. If the whole process is open to all then why Mr. Thaaroor has to take permission from her or meet her?  

Why is Ashok Gahlot reluctant to contest?

Ashok Gahlot is the current chief minister of Rajasthan. In fact, the Congress party holds power in only two states, and another one is Chasttigarh. As per people's perception, Askok Gahlot is a loyalist to the Gandhi family. Unlike Mr. Tharoor, Gahlot is the puppet of Shri Sonia Gandhi and works under her. His main fear is that If he got elected to the president's post, then a new CM will be replaced. He does not want to see Mr. Sachin Pilot be the chief minister of Rajasthan. Again the drama here is "If he does not want to become the party president, then why is Ms. Gandhi pressurizing him?

In the name of a free and fair election, the Gandhi family is showcasing their actual conduct. It is clearly shown that either they themselves should be in power or use someone to control them.
